Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Sept. 9 to 16:
• On Sept. 9, in the mid afternoon, a vandal smashed the drivers’ side window of a vehicle parked near Dakota Bowl trail in Sechelt. The suspect appears to have used a rock, but did not gain entry to the vehicle and nothing was stolen.
• On Sept. 10, mischief was reported at a building in the 5600 block of Highway 101 after staff discovered a vandal has spray painted "666" in black in three locations.
• Early on Sept. 11, an attempted break and enter into a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Cascade Crest. was reported after the vehicle owner caught two young males attempting to get inside his unlocked truck. The owner yelled at the youth who fled the scene on foot. No damage or theft was reported.
• On Sept. 10, a suspicious male was reported attempting to gain entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. The owner scared the suspect off, but was unable to obtain a description, as it was dark. No theft or damage was reported.
• Mischief that occurred on the afternoon of Sept. 10 was reported by a business in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. Surveillance footage shows three male youths throwing chairs into a pool. One of the youth was also observed urinating and defecating in a hot tub. The suspects, described as being around 13 to 15 years old, were seen entering through a key-card controlled entrance, which may have been inadvertently left open by a customer. Police are attempting to identify the suspects. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP, at 604-885-2266 and reference file 14-6496.
• Overnight on Sept. 12, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of Shaw Road in Gibsons, and stole a GPS unit, a wallet containing identification and credit cards, a black Air Jordan backpack, a pair of Converse shoes and a pair of Air Jordan shoes.
• On Sept. 12, a witness reported a driver possibly using a cell phone run a red light at the intersection of Wharf Avenue and Highway 101. Police located the driver who admitted to being distracted while driving and issued her a violation ticket for using an electronic device while driving and failing to stop at a red light.
• On Sept. 12, a shoplifter was caught stealing a jacket from the BC Ferries on-board gift shop. Staff observed the female remove the item from its hanger and then conceal it under her clothing. The female was stopped outside the gift and the stolen item was recovered. Charges are being recommended.
• On Sept. 13, a herd of horses on the loose was reported on Highway 101 near Maskell Road in Roberts Creek. Police attended and located the owner and tried to round up the five horses that escaped their unlocked pen. Unfortunately, the horses were not cooperative and galloped away, causing concern for oncoming motorists. Eventually, police, with the help of multiple motorists who stopped to assist, were able to corral the horses and tie their bridles to a fence until the owner could take them safely back home.
• On Sept. 14, police witnessed a dirt biker westbound on Lockyer Road in Roberts Creek. When the biker saw the officer, the biker jumped off his bike and started walking with it. Police stopped the biker and noted a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. The biker was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The biker was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his motorcycle was impounded for 30 days.
