A pair of Sechelt men have been arrested and are facing various charges in connection to their alleged involvement in a home invasion last week in Roberts Creek.

On Aug. 6, Sunshine Coast RCMP arrested a 20-year-old man and on Aug. 9, arrested 22-year-old Dane Thomas Stanway. Both men have been charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and possession of a weapon, a baseball bat, bear spray and an imitation firearm, for a dangerous purpose (three charges each).

Stanway has been remanded in custody, while the second suspect was released on a promise to appear and undertaking for his first court appearance on Sept. 1 to answer to the charges. As his charges have not been sworn in court, RCMP are unable to release his name. RCMP say they know both suspects.

On Aug. 2, RCMP received a report of a home invasion at a residence in Roberts Creek.

"A witness reported seeing two to three men armed with a rifle and bear spray threaten the occupants of residence before departing in an older model sedan," said Cpl. Steve Chubey. "Police attended the scene and soon discovered that two men had forced their way into the residence and assaulted the victim with a baseball bat before pepper-spraying him and threatening him with a rifle. The victim's girlfriend was also at the residence. The victim is well-known to police."
