October is Small Business Month, and the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce is kicking off a series of workshops to help small businesses on the Sunshine Coast improve their bottom line.

The first workshop will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3. Facebook Marketing, presented by media strategist Al Hyland, will give business owners hands-on instruction on how to target potential customers through their current Facebook site.

There are some 14,000 Facebook users on the Sunshine Coast, Hyland points out. "Whether you want more likes on your Facebook page or you want to give people more information about your business, this workshop will show you how easy and quick it is to do that," he said.

Hyland is on the board of Gibsons Chamber of Commerce. His company, Ocean Cove Media, develops advertising campaigns and buys advertising for clients in Greater Vancouver and on the Sunshine Coast.

Registration is free for Chamber members or $10 for others. To reserve your place, email exec@gibsonschamber.com or call 604-886-2325.

Future workshops include Developing Brand Equity, presented by Sean Kelly, director of marketing at the Justice Institute, and Plain Language for Business, presented by Elizabeth Rains, editing instructor at Simon Fraser University. Dates for these and other workshops will be announced. Those with skills they would like to share in a workshop should contact Donna McMahon at exec@gibsonschamber.com.
