For the third consecutive year Rotary clubs on the Lower Sunshine Coast presented a cheque to the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation at the Gibsons Rotary wine festival and art auction fundraiser last Saturday night, April 26.

This year Rotary’s total accumulated donation to the foundation was $71,000 for equipment in the new extension at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Rotary’s fundraising efforts included a B.C. gaming grant, private donations, burger and beer night and RCMP Musical Ride.

Since 2012, Rotary has donated $171,000 to the Foundation.

At the wine festival and art auction fundraiser, Ingeborg Suzanne Hardman, co-chair of the Gibsons Rotary committee, acknowledged the financial assistance of the province for $12,000 given to Gibsons Rotary towards the purchase of the digital portable X-ray unit. The $12,000 received by Gibsons Rotary through the gaming grant is a small portion of the total funds St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation raised for the X-ray unit.

“Our local Rotary clubs have demonstrated incredible support for St. Mary’s Hospital and the well-being of our community through their very generous donations to the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, and I thank them — and everyone who supported their fundraisers — for their wonderful gift,” said Maureen Clayton, St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation chair. “This money will help us ensure that St. Mary’s Hospital has the best in medical equipment to meet our health care needs.”
