OCP change for Oracle

Sechelt Council

Oracle Properties Ltd. sought a change to their official community plan (OCP) designation and zoning for a multi-family development planned for Tyler Road during the Sept. 17 Sechelt committee of the whole meeting.

Originally the plan was for 43 townhouses (including six affordable housing units) in the area, but developers said there isn’t much of a market for the townhouses and instead pitched a plan for 17 units consisting of 15 single-family residential homes and one, side-by-side duplex for affordable housing.

Proponents also asked to reduce the building setback to zero where the affordable units are to be located.

Councillors had a few concerns with the plan’s narrow roadways, the lesser number of affordable housing units and the stigma that might come with having affordable housing in the only duplex in the area.

After hearing that changes could be made following a public information meeting, however, council voted unanimously in favour of first reading and referral to a public information meeting.

Sewer petition

A 2012 petition to bring sewer service to four properties on Driftwood Place in West Sechelt is now getting some action by council.

At the Sept. 17 committee of the whole meeting councillors accepted a report from the director of corporate services detailing the results of the petition, which showed three of the four property owners in favour of hooking up to the sewer system.

The report suggested Sechelt provide sewer service to the homes by way of a local area service, which shares the cost between the District and the benefiting property owners.

The cost to extend sewer service to the four Driftwood Place properties is estimated at about $53,000.

Councillors decided to move forward with a bylaw that would allow the work to commence, sending it to the next regular council meeting for consideration of three readings.

Highway bylaw

Councillors rescinded third reading of their new highway and parking bylaw to make some changes before re-reading the amended bylaw and sending it to a future council meeting for adoption.

The changes made include adding some definitions for pathways and trails and delegating authority to remove and impound vehicles found in contravention of the bylaw to the District’s bylaw enforcement officers.
