Greens, NDP vetting candidates

Federal Election

Former Whistler mayor Ken Melamed has announced his candidacy for the Green Party of Canada nomination in the 2015 federal election for West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country.

Melamed served multiple terms on Whistler council before winning the mayor’s seat in 2005. He served two terms as mayor, ending in 2011.

Michael Maser of Gibsons also is seeking the nomination.

The party is set to choose its candidate at nomination meetings on Aug. 7 and 8.

This week Gibsons’ Elizabeth Nordlund stepped forward to contest for the NDP nomination. She is the lone candidate so far to announce her candidacy for the NDP, which will hold nomination meetings in early fall.

The winners from the Greens and NDP will run against incumbent member of Parliament John Weston of the Conservative Party and Liberal Party of Canada candidate Pam Goldsmith-Jones.
