Airport expansion discussed

Sechelt Council

Coun. Chris Moore invited the public to a Sept. 13 event at the Sechelt Airport during his councillor report.

The event on Saturday runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and will feature guest speakers, airport development displays and information about current airport operations.

“I would encourage all the public to show up,” Moore said. “There seems to be lots of questions about what we’re planning on doing or what we’re asking for, so this will be an opportunity to look at it and meet the people who are proponents for it.”

The event is meant to raise awareness about current airport operations and explain what’s needed to bring scheduled air service to the Coast.

Bus shelter

Sechelt council unanimously endorsed awarding $22,000 from the Sunshine Coast Community Forest Legacy Fund to the Sunshine Coast Regional District to construct a log transit shelter outside St. Mary’s Hospital along the highway.

“I know that it’s been much needed in front of the hospital. There are a lot of the workers who use the bus system,” Coun. Alice Lutes said. “I just think it’s great that they will have a shelter to wait for their bus to go home at the end of the day.”

Parking rates

Council adopted new parking rates for the municipal parking lot at the government wharf in Sechelt Inlet.

The new rates will see free parking during the day and a $10 fee per night for overnight parking of unoccupied vehicles with or without a boat trailer.
