Sunshine Coast RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 31 to April 7:

Traffic

• On March 31, a pedestrian versus motor vehicle accident was reported on the corner of Shaw Road and Gibsons Way after a motorist made a left turn from Sunnycrest Mall onto Gibsons Way and struck a pedestrian who was crossing with the signal.

The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene. The driver called police and remained at the scene.  She advised her vision had been obstructed by rain when she made the turn, and she was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian on a green light.

• On April 4, while conducting a roadblock on Highway 101 at Monkey Tree Lane in Sechelt, police pulled over a driver who was exhibiting signs of intoxication.

The suspect, who admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the night, was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On April 4, police witnessed a southbound vehicle pass without dimming its high beams and noted it was driving about 20 km/hour under the posted speed limit. Police pulled the suspect vehicle over and spoke with the driver, who advised that she was intoxicated and needed to get home because she had to go to work in the morning. The driver was given and failed two roadside alcohol-screening tests. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition as well as a violation ticket for failing to display an "N" on the back of her vehicle. The driver's vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.

Break and enter

• Early on April 3, 2015, a male and female suspect were caught on surveillance video cutting through fencing to gain access to a storage facility in the 12800 block of Highway 101. This was the second time in a week the facility was broken into, and it is believed the same suspects are responsible for both offences.

The suspects cut locks off individual storage lockers and stole a number of items including a .22 gauge single shot bolt action rifle and a 444 Marlin Winchester lever action rifle. The file is still under investigation.

Thefts

• On April 3, unknown suspects gained access to several unlocked vehicles in the 5600 block of Mintie Road in Halfmoon Bay stealing a number of items including a red and black plaid Burberry purse, cash, and identification. Several wallets and miscellaneous papers and cards were found discarded on scene.

The file is still under investigation.

• Overnight on April 3, a suspect attempted to steal a battery from a boat parked in the 8900 block of Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay, but was deterred by the wiring. The owner reported seeing a dim light out on the boats around 4 a.m., but thought it was a light he had left on inside. No actual theft or damage occurred, but the boat owner reported that about a month prior, someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and stolen a iPad.

• Overnight on April 3, a thief gained entry to a vehicle in the 9000 block of Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay that had its windows rolled down, and stole an ashtray. The thief also rifled through the glove box, but no other theft was reported.
