Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Jan. 20 to 27:

Break and enters/shoplifting

• Between Jan. 16 and 22, unknown suspects gained entry into a building in the 5500 block of Shorncliffe Avenue in Sechelt.

As there were no obvious signs of how the suspects gained entry, it is believed they may have been small enough to squeeze through security fencing and bars. The suspect(s) then emptied two fire extinguishers onto a stage and left on the lights before fleeing. No major damage or theft was reported.

• Early on Jan. 21, a theft occurred at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue in Sechelt. Three male suspects ran into the store, grabbed several bags of chips from the rack and then fled on foot. All the males were described as being late teens, ranging in height between five foot 10 and six feet.

One male was wearing a black hoodie and red balaclava, the second wore a grey hoodie and a brown plaid shirt and the third male, a light coloured sweater and jeans. One of the staff threw a cup of tea on the third male, staining his sweater. Police recovered one of the stolen items as well as the third suspect's stained clothing. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.

• On Jan. 23, a break and enter to a building near Sinku Drive and Skupa Avenue in Sechelt, was reported after a passerby noticed lights on when the building should have been closed.

Police attended and located a group of teens inside the building. Several of the teens fled the scene, but police detained a few of them. Police found some damage to the door and locking system. The matter has been referred to the youth liaison and First Nations Community Policing officers.

• Between Jan. 23 and 24, a thief gained entry into a business in the 200 block of Molly's Lane in Gibsons, and stole a pair of Oster cordless clippers and a tin full of loose change. The suspect appears to have lifted an iron gate to access the premises.

Thefts from vehicles

• On Jan. 20, a possible break and enter in progress to vehicles parked in the 4800 block of Laurel Avenue in Sechelt, was reported after witnesses saw a female trying to gain entry in vehicles.

It appears the female did enter at least one vehicle and caused significant damage to the interior as well as take a number of items. The suspect was identified and police recovered most of the stolen items. The file is still under investigation.

• On Jan. 24, a resident in the 700 block of Tricklebrook Way in Gibsons, reported an attempt break and enter to her vehicle.

The suspect(s) gained entry to the trunk, which set off the alarm, alerting the resident. No suspects were seen in the vicinity and nothing was stolen,

• Overnight on Jan. 24, a thief gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Surf Circle in Sechelt, and stole a plastic bag with loose change and a USB adapter from the glove box. Police located the empty bag and the USB adapter jammed into the gas tank of another vehicle parked nearby.

A second similar incident was reported after a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Trident Avenue in Sechelt, and stole a purse that had been left in the glove box. The black "Coach" purse contained a brown "Fossil" wallet and other personal items and identification. The owner later found the contents of her wallet, except the cash, buried near a ditch along Sechelt Inlet Road.

Traffic incidents

On Jan. 22, a two-vehicle collision occurred in the 1100 block of Roberts Creek Road, after the first vehicle tried to pass a second vehicle.

The first vehicle merged back in the lane behind the second vehicle after failing to make the pass successfully, and then when the second vehicle slowed down, the first vehicle was unable to slow down in time to avoid a collision. The driver and one of the passengers of the second vehicle were taken to hospital for assessment, but the driver of the first vehicle was unhurt. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for follow too closely.

• Early on Jan. 25, a resident near the intersection of Jack Road and Browning Road in Wilson Creek, reported hearing a possible motor vehicle accident and then sounds of a vehicle burning out its tires. Police arrived and located a male walking around a still-running vehicle that as stuck in a shallow ditch. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of medical distress, was taken to the hospital for assessment. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
