Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 25 to Nov. 29:

• On Nov. 25, a series of thefts at a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt was reported. The first theft, which occurred in early November, was of a cast iron Fleur de Lis statue. On Nov. 21, a red transfer ware bowl with a floral pattern, a Paragon china teapot and a blue floral patterned butter bowl were stolen. Anyone with any information about these thefts is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 14-8219.

• On Nov. 25, police attended a dangerous traffic situation after a vehicle was witnessed driving northbound on the wrong side of Highway 101 near Mason Road in Sechelt. Witnesses, who'd managed to avoid head-on collisions with the errant vehicle also reported that the front windshield was completely fogged up and that the driver had turned off their headlights and continued driving in the wrong lane before pulling over at Redrooffs Road.

The elderly driver told police that she had "gone blind" and had waited to find a safe place to pull over. The driver was instructed not to drive until further notice and that police would be submitting an urgent medical review. The driver was also issued violation tickets for several traffic offences.

• On Nov. 27, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt, after staff witnessed a black-clad female grab a black faux-leather jacket off a rack and run out of the store.

Staff pursued the suspect into another business, but the suspect got away before police arrival. Several bystanders identified the suspect and police confirmed this information by reviewing surveillance video footage. The file is still under investigation

• On Nov. 28, a two-vehicle accident occurred at an intersection in the 5500 block of Highway 101 in Sechelt, after a left-turning vehicle attempted to make a turn though the opposing traffic had the green light.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but both vehicles had to be towed. A medical driver's licence review has been requested of the driver of the left-turning vehicle. That driver was also issued a violation ticket for disobey traffic sign or signal.

• Early on Nov. 29, police initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle eastbound on Gibsons Way that only had its daytime running lights on. The vehicle did not stop until police activated emergency sirens, and upon approaching the lone driver and occupant, police noted the strong odour of alcohol.

The driver advised he'd consumed alcohol shortly before driving and was issued a roadside alcohol-screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Nov. 29, a two-vehicle accident was reported on North Road at Hillcrest Road in Gibsons, after a northbound vehicle crossed the median and struck a southbound vehicle. The northbound driver admitted to driving too fast then skidding on ice before colliding with the other vehicle. The southbound driver was taken to hospital for assessment and the northbound driver was issued a violation ticket for speeding relative to conditions and both vehicles were towed.

• On Nov. 29, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101 in Sechelt. The suspect was caught on surveillance video stealing electronic equipment. Staff was able to identify the young suspect and parents were notified of the theft. The apologetic suspect returned the stolen item and will be performing some service to the business to make amends.

• On Nov. 29, a two-vehicle accident occurred in the 1100 block of Marine Drive in Gibsons, after the driver of the first vehicle took his attention off the road, drove off onto the shoulder and crashed into a parked vehicle. The first driver was taken to hospital for minor injuries and was issued a violation ticket for drive without due care and attention.
