Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 18 to 24:

• Early on Nov. 18, a suspect kicked in a glass door at a restaurant located in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue in Sechelt, but did not manage to gain entry inside. Surveillance video captured a suspicious male in the area immediately prior to the mischief. The file is still under investigation.

• On Nov. 18, a thief stole a wallet after a man left his clothing in the change room of a clothing store while browsing through the store. The wallet was a light blue and grey Dakine model. Police are reviewing video surveillance footage.

• On Nov. 12, a thief stole a tip jar from a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue in Sechelt. The suspect was in the business shortly beforehand and then returned and stole the jar from the counter. Video surveillance cameras captured the theft, and police will be following up with the known suspect.

• On Nov. 19, a witness reported a vehicle northbound on Highway 101 near Field Road in Wilson Creek, after it passed another vehicle over a double solid line.

Police located the suspect vehicle a short distance away and spoke with the driver who admitted to the driving infraction and apologized, claiming frustration with other drivers going well below the posted speed limit. The driver was issued a violation ticket for passing on a double solid line.

• On Nov. 19, a witness reported a possible impaired driver in a vehicle southbound on Gibsons Way that was swerving in its lane, flashing its high beams and travelling at erratic speeds.

Police were unable to locate the vehicle, but later contacted the driver who advised that she had been having trouble seeing with just the low beam lights on and that the lights from on-coming traffic made it hard for her to see the road. Police confirmed the driver was not intoxicated and explained that high beams were not to be used when there was on-coming traffic.

• In the late afternoon on Nov. 19, a young male called police on his cell phone from inside the public washrooms at Hackett Park, asking for help because the doors had automatically locked behind him, trapping him inside.

Police attended and called out District of Sechelt staff who determined the emergency release button failed. Staff dismantled the magnetized door's locking system and the young male and his dog were freed.

• Police were called to Tricklebrook Way in Gibsons shortly after midnight on Nov. 22, after residents reported a possible prowler in the area. The residents reported that after hearing a noise outside, saw a male running up the street, and noticed that their motorcycle had been moved. Residents believe the prowler may have been trying to steal the motorcycle. Police recommend that residents in the area ensure their valuables are secured, and ask that people call police if they see anything suspicious.

• During the evening of Nov. 22, a serious assault occurred in the parking lot of the Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons. After one male noticed another male following him in his car, he pulled into the parking lot, and was hit repeatedly by the other male.

“The two males are known to each other, and appear to have an ongoing dispute, however we are asking that anyone who witnessed the attack call Sunshine Coast RCMP,” said media relations officer Const. Harrison Mohr.

Witnesses are asked to call RCMP at 604-885-2266 and quote file number 14-8175.

• Shortly before 3 a.m. on Nov. 23, police attended to a single-vehicle rollover accident in the 13000 block of Sunshine Coast Highway after a witness heard the collision.

No one was in the vehicle when police located it, and it appeared that the driver left the scene. Police later located the driver and found him to be intoxicated.

The driver was charged with driving without due care and attention, and driving without insurance, under the Motor Vehicle Act.
