Vehicle fire closes Highway 101

Sunshine Coast RCMP say one man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle caught fire near Trout Lake Road and Highway 101 Thursday morning, July 9. The Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at 6:10 a.m.

Sunshine Coast RCMP say one man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle caught fire near Trout Lake Road and Highway 101 Thursday morning, July 9.

The Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at 6:10 a.m. and were the first responders on scene, according to RCMP.

RCMP said two passersby were able to extricate the man, who was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. 

The fire department said the man suffered injuries from both the fire and from crashing the vehicle.

He was airlifted to a Lower Mainland hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions for about an hour.
