Two Coast businesses nominated for awards

Small Business BC

Two Sunshine Coast businesses have been nominated for awards for this year’s Small Business BC Awards.

Coast Martial Arts in Gibsons is nominated for Best Community Impact. The award goes to the company that’s truly making a difference in their community. This business has taken positive action to invest in their community and sees social responsibility as an integral part of the business’ success.

Target Marine Hatcheries in Sechelt has been nominated in three categories: Best Company, Premier’s People’s Choice, and Best International Trade.

The Best Company Award recognizes the B.C. small business that best demonstrates exceptional leadership and a proven track record of growth and profitability. The Premier’s People’s Choice Award is presented to a B.C. business that can demonstrate that they have the unwavering and loyal support of their community. The Best International Trade Award recognizes the top company with an exciting and viable trade business that is contributing to the B.C. economy.

Nominations opened on Oct. 1 and so far, 346 B.C. small businesses have been nominated.

Since its inception in 2003, the annual Small Business BC Awards have become one of the largest and most widely recognized contests in the province. Last year, 470 local small businesses were nominated, from 55 communities.

Nominations and voting for will remain open until Nov. 30. Businesses can enter the competition through self-or third-party nomination.

To prove that they are truly among the best in B.C., nominated companies must gain as many votes as possible. Top 10 finalists will then submit an extended application to narrow down the competition.

The top five will then face a Dragon’s Den-style panel of judges to pitch why they should be named the best in B.C.
