Transit service was back to running on a regular schedule on all routes, with only minor delays, Feb. 24 according to the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD).

A late winter storm that swept across the B.C. Coast on Feb. 23 forced the closure of schools and all SCRD facilities.  For most of the day Transit was restricted to Highway 101 only.

The Sechelt and Gibsons Public Libraries were also closed Friday due to the snowstorm, and several community events were cancelled.

BC Hydro reported no major power outages, unlike the storm that hit February 17, that knocked out power for thousands of customers on the Sunshine Coast.

As of Saturday morning the following SCRD facilities were scheduled to reopen for their regular operating hours:

  • Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre
  • Sechelt Aquatic Centre
  • Sechelt Arena
  • Gibsons and Area Community Centre
  • Gibsons and District Aquatic Facility

The Sechelt Landfill will remain closed Feb. 24th and the Pender Harbour Transfer Station will return to regular hours on Monday Feb. 26.

The weather may have impacted the delivery of this week's Coast Reporter in some neighbourhoods. Our carriers are working to ensure distribution is complete by Saturday evening.  Our full digital edition is now available here.

Check www.gibsons.ca, www.sechelt.ca, www.scrd.ca for updates on municipal facilities and services impacted by the storm, and www.drivebc.ca for road conditions.  www.bchydro.com will have information about any power outages.
