Property owners in Sechelt could see another substantial tax increase in 2018.

A report on the draft 2018-22 financial plan from director of financial services Doug Stewart proposes a tax increase of 4.7 per cent “to fund the district’s general operating expenses” as well as a three per cent increase for capital funding.

The report also says, however, that with no increases planned for sewer or solid waste fees, the 7.7 per cent increase will have a net impact of 4.73 per cent for most residential properties. For a property with the average assessed value of $543,857 it would mean an additional $105.54.

The finance, culture and economic development committee was scheduled to discuss the report at its Dec. 13 meeting, after Coast Reporter’s deadline, and further discussions on the budget will come in January.
