Roberts Creek residents win big

Lotto 6/49

Chris Mantel and Keith Miller from Roberts Creek are B.C.’s latest winners after claiming the “guaranteed” prize of $1 million on the Dec. 20 draw.

The two winners are long-time friends and have been playing the lottery together for nine years, but they almost stopped after they hadn’t won anything in a while.

“I guess it was a good thing we didn’t,” joked Mantel. “We started playing together to be cost effective, but it’s also just a nice thing to do together.”

Miller and Mantel and their wives are still making plans for what to do with the money, but the two friends are already dreaming of what those plans might entail.

Miller, who was retired, but went back to work, is now looking forward to once again putting in his notice.

“I didn’t believe it until it was validated — I thought Chris was pulling my leg,” said Keith. “I guess I can quit my job now and actually retire.”

Mantel, on the other hand, has some travel plans on his mind, including a possible trip to Europe.

“It’s always been on my bucket list to go to Barcelona, and now I can go,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the London Drugs on 66 Avenue in Langley and was checked at a convenience store in Horseshoe Bay.

More winners?

There is also another winner(s) somewhere on the Sunshine Coast.

A $79,000 prize is waiting to be claimed from a ticket sold in Sechelt for the Saturday, Jan. 17 Lotto 6/49 draw.
