Break and Enter

• Overnight on June 19, suspects rammed a log blocking a business entrance in the 4400 block of Woolridge Road, Port Mellon and then rammed a garage door, causing significant damage. They ripped off a wooden panel to gain access to a workshop and stole approximately 16 truck batteries (both 12 and 24 volt). Anyone with information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-3920. The file is still under investigation.

Theft

• Overnight on June 19, a suspect stole an approximately 20-foot section of manufactured aluminum railing used to hold glass on a deck. The railing had been kept in the back of a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, and would have weighed more than 100 pounds. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-3921.

Collisions

• On June 20, police attended a motor vehicle incident involving a cyclist after a vehicle pulled out of a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, and was struck by a cyclist travelling the wrong way in the bike lane. The bike sustained some minor damage and the cyclist reported minor injuries. The driver remained on the scene and provided assistance to the cyclist. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On June 21, police attended a three-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Havies Road, Davis Bay, after the first vehicle stopped to make a left turn off the highway onto Havies Road. The second vehicle stopped behind the first, but a third vehicle failed to stop in time and rear-ended the second vehicle. This pushed the second vehicle into the oncoming lane, where it clipped a semi-truck, before correcting course back into its own lane, hitting the first vehicle. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were taken to hospital for minor injuries and all three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The semi-truck driver reported no damage. The driver of the third vehicle was issued a violation ticket for following too closely. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On June 24, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 6300 block of Highway 101, after a vehicle went off road and struck a hydro pole, bringing down the wires in the process. The driver and passenger were able to exit the vehicle on their own; the vehicle had to be towed. The driver advised he fell asleep while driving and was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On June 25, police attended a four-vehicle incident southbound in the 4700 block of Highway 101, Davis Bay, after the first car stopped at a marked intersection to allow pedestrians to cross. The second and third vehicles came to a complete stop behind the first, but the fourth vehicle failed to stop and drove into the rear of the third vehicle, pushing it into the second vehicle which then struck the first. No serious injuries were reported but all but the first vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed. The fourth vehicle driver advised he’d looked down to turn on the radio and when he looked up, he realized the car in front of him was stopped and didn’t have time to even apply the brakes. This driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• Late on June 25, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 15400 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park, after the driver reported going off the road and down an embankment. The driver, who was able to climb out on her own and walked to a business to call for help, advised she’d attempted to make a quick U-turn and lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway. The driver was taken to hospital for minor injuries and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Shoplifting

• On June 25, police attended a shoplifting complaint at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, after the male suspect was witnessed by staff attempting to leave the premises with unpaid-for merchandise. Staff recovered one item, but believed the suspect left with another item concealed on his person. Police located the suspect nearby and found he did have one other item, which was seized. The suspect was advised that he was banned from the business.

Theft from Vehicle

• Between June 22 and 25, a suspect stole two truck batteries from a truck parked in the 600 block of Hough Road, Gibsons. No damage to the vehicle or other theft was reported.
