Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 6 to 13:

Collision

• On Feb. 6, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Bay Road, Davis Bay after the first vehicle came to a complete stop behind a long line of traffic and the second vehicle failed to stop in time and rear-ended the first vehicle. No life-threatening injuries were reported but the second vehicle had to be towed due to damage. The second vehicle driver advised he’d noticed the stopped traffic ahead of him, but failed to react in time. As the second vehicle’s driver is already under review, the matter has been referred to ICBC.

Bike Theft

• Between 1 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 6, a thief stole an unsecured bike that had been left in the bike rack in front of Elphinstone Secondary School in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The bike is described as a green and black Giant Stance mountain bike with a Chromag after-market handlebar and a short seat post. The serial number is GW507126. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-806.

Found Bike

• On Feb. 7, a bike found at the Bank of Montreal in Sechelt was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference file 2018-820.

Mischief to Business

• Overnight on Feb. 7, a witness saw a group of vandals using chairs to try to break the glass on a storefront in the 1100 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The vandals also ripped off siding, tipped over a garbage can and damaged a pillar near the front door. Police are reviewing video surveillance footage. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-824.

Break and Enter

• Late on Feb. 7, thieves smashed a glass door at a business in the 12300 block of Sunshine Coast Highway, Madeira Park, to gain entry and proceeded to break into an office and a safe, from which cash was stolen. The thieves also stole a number of items including DeWalt and Milwaukee tools. Police are reviewing video surveillance footage. Anyone with information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-837.

Impaired Driving

• On Feb. 8, police witnessed a vehicle travelling well over the posted speed limit on Port Mellon Highway near Forbes Road, Langdale, and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, advised he’d consumed alcohol about an hour prior to driving. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafety BC.

Theft/Shoplifting

• Sometime between mid-December 2017 and Feb. 9, 2018, a suspect stole a boat from the dock in front of a business in the 600 block of School Road, Gibsons. The boat is described as a red 14.5 foot Stryker inflatable boat with a six-horsepower Nissan outboard motor. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-861.

• On Feb. 9, two female suspects were caught on video surveillance at a business in the 4300 block of Highway 101, Wilson Creek, placing meat and cheese in their bags before walking out of the premises without paying. Shortly afterwards, one of the suspects posted the stolen perishables on a local buy and sell website. The file is still under investigation as police attempt to confirm the identities of the suspects. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-863.

Theft from Vehicles

• Overnight on Feb. 11, a thief gained entry to several unsecured vehicles parked in the 800 block of Oceanmount Boulevard and the 500 block of Shaw Road, Gibsons. In one case, the suspect stole an assortment of credit and identification cards. The suspect then used one of the credit cards at two local businesses before the cards were cancelled by the owner. Police are attempting to locate the suspect who was captured on video surveillance at one of the businesses. In another case, the suspect made off with prescription glasses, a Garmin GPS, a flashlight, and a handful of US dollar toll booth tokens.
