Sunshine Coast reported the following for Jan. 1 to 8:
Break and Enters
• Sometime between 5 p.m. on Jan. 1 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 2, a thief jimmied open a door to gain access to a garage in the 6500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a number of tools including a Stihl leaf blower, Stihl 16-inch chain saw, Bosch corded hammer drill, a cordless Bosch drill and an impact drill with batteries. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-23.
• Overnight on Jan. 2 and 3, a thief gained entry to a building in the 6200 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a number of tools including two Makita cordless impact drill sets, a tape measure and a knife. The suspect did not damage any property and relocked the premises afterwards. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-51.
• Overnight on Jan. 3, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle in the 6300 block of Jasper Road, Sechelt, and rifled through it before stealing several sets of keys from the console and a box of coffee. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-55.
• Around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 31, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4900 block of Laurel Avenue, Davis Bay, and rifled through the glove box and console and stole a set of keys. No other theft or damage was reported.
• Sometime over Jan. 6 and 7, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4900 block of Laurel Avenue and stole a number of cheques from a chequebook, a pair of Spy sunglasses, change, and vehicle and financial information. Police remind the public to remove valuables from their vehicles and to lock them to deter opportunistic thieves. • Overnight on Jan. 3, a thief gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 6100 block of Baillie Road, Sechelt, and rifled through the contents before stealing a red Swiss brand one-shoulder backpack containing a pink leather wallet full of identification and cards, a large amount of cash, and other items that had been left hidden in the rear seating area. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-59.
• Between noon and 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, a suspect unsuccessfully tried to kick in two doors, including the front door, to gain entry to a residence in the 5100 block of Havies Road, Sechelt, before prying open a rear door to gain access to the attached garage. The suspect then attempted to pry open the door leading into the house, but is believed to have been scared away by the return of the owner before gaining entry. Nothing has been reported stolen. Thefts
• Between Dec. 22 and Jan. 2, a suspect stole a GPI fuel pump from a business in the 5800 block of Schetxwen Road, Sechelt. The suspect(s) cut a pipe to remove the fuel pump, which has a “fill-rite” fuel meter on it, from its tank. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-27.
Traffic
• On Jan. 2, police attended a hit and run incident in the 5600 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, after a white hatchback parked next to another vehicle starting backing out and struck the parked vehicle’s driver’s side. Rather than pulling forward and straightening out, the driver continued backing out, scraping and denting the other vehicle’s driver’s side in the process. The driver of the hatchback then drove off without leaving any information for the damaged vehicle driver. Police are reviewing security video footage. Found Ring
• On Jan. 8, a small woman’s ring was turned in after being found in the 5600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. Owner may claim within 90 days, with detailed description. Reference file 2018-167.
Fraud
• This week, a couple of businesses on the Coast have discovered that purchases by an unknown male back in early November 2017 were made using fraudulent pre-paid Visa credit cards or gift cards. The suspect, described as a bald or close shaven blond Caucasian male with a large neck tattoo, appeared to have several such cards in his wallet, and if one card was declined, he used another one. Anyone with information about this individual is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-127.
