Pilot killed in Powell River plane crash

A pilot flying in to Powell River from Pitt Meadows died after his plane crashed near a parking lot on Sept. 5.

A plane crash late on the morning of Monday, Sept. 5 claimed the life of a pilot flying into Powell River from Pitt Meadows.

David Tetarenko, a 54-year-old pilot from Coquitlam, originally from Powell River, was the only person on the plane.

The twin-engine PA-30 Comanche plane crashed beside the Safeway parking lot behind condominium apartments at 4580 Joyce Ave. at approximately 11:20 a.m.

According to captain Dave Bowes of Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, the pilot died at the scene. The man was flying the private plane into Powell River to pick up passengers when the plane crashed, Bowes said.

Cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
