Penner case adjourned to Oct. 29

COURT

The man charged in the Oct. 1 death of his mother appeared by video link in Sechelt provincial court Wednesday morning, when his case was adjourned to Oct. 29.

Donovan Penner, 47, was charged earlier this month with second-degree murder in the death of Esme LaChance, 67.

Crown prosecutor Trevor Cockfield said Penner’s defence lawyer was still awaiting complete disclosure of information in the case. No plea has been entered.

Penner is being held in custody at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam.

LaChance’s body was found after Sunshine Coast RCMP and BC Ambulance Service attended a residence in the 5200 block of Selma Park Road in Sechelt, just before 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 1.

LaChance’s injuries appeared to be “consistent with foul play,” police reported.

RCMP arrested Penner at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), based in Surrey, was called in to assume conduct of the investigation.
