Modified sailing schedule in place

BC FERRIES
Queen of Surrey
Travellers on the Horseshoe Bay-Langdale route should expect delays tonight and possibly for the rest of the week due to a mechanical problem with the Queen of Surrey.

BC Ferries has a modified sailing schedule in place on the Horseshoe Bay-Langdale route from today (Oct. 29) until Saturday, Nov. 1.

The schedule changes were implemented Wednesday morning due to a mechanical problem with the Queen of Surrey, which occurred Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s a problem with one of the controllable pitch propellers,” said executive director of public affairs Deborah Marshall.

Marshall said while the vessel is safe to operate, the ship is running at reduced speed, which necessitated the schedule change.

The revised schedule has sailings leaving Langdale at 6:20 a.m., 8:50 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:40 p.m., 4:10 p.m., 6:50 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Sailings are leaving Horseshoe Bay at 7:30 a.m., 9:55 a.m., 12:20 p.m., 2:50 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10:10 p.m.

BC Ferries said the Surrey would return to sailing on the regular schedule effective with the 6:20 a.m. departure from Langdale on Nov. 2. The date is based on the successful completion of the required repairs.

“Operations looked to see if there were other options to move ships around to replace the Surrey, but the Cowichan, Alberni, Spirit of Vancouver Island and Coastal Renaissance are all currently undergoing refits, said Marshall.
