Inclusive Abilities Resource Fair in Roberts Creek

Open Door Group

Inclusiveness. This is a word that Genny Verge, Sunshine Coast Special Olympic athlete and Jobs in Demand participant, would like everyone to use when talking about diverse abilities.

“I want inclusion to be for everyone,” Genny said. “I don’t think it should single out one group; it shouldn’t be exclusive. I want everyone to feel like they are included and accepted.”

For Genny, participating in the Jobs in Demand program helped her to “get some good skills and open a lot of doors” through job coaching and one-on-one support. But for others, accessing supports for their diverse abilities can be a challenge.

With this in mind, Open Door Group created the idea of an “Inclusive Abilities Resource Fair” in celebration of the month of September, which is British Columbia’s Disability Employment Month.

The Resource Fair will be held on Sept. 28, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Roberts Creek Hall. Refreshments will be provided.
