Hospital board holds inaugural meeting

SCRD

The inaugural 2015 Sunshine Coast Regional Hospital District (SCRHD) board meeting was held on Jan. 22.

The SCRHD is made up of directors from all areas within the regional district.

Directors chose Pender Harbour/Egmont area director Frank Mauro to sit as chair of the hospital board for 2015 and Halfmoon Bay area director Garry Nohr to serve as vice chair.

Director remuneration

As a first order of business directors set their remuneration for the year ahead.

Mauro will receive $233.92 per board meeting he chairs while all other directors will receive $116.96 per meeting attended. Meetings are generally held on a quarterly basis; however, last year seven meetings were scheduled.

Purpose

The purpose of the SCRHD is to help establish, operate and maintain hospital facilities on the Coast and to provide grants in aid to do that.

The SCRHD typically provides about 40 per cent of capital funding for the region’s hospital facilities and equipment and it also provides an annual grant of $240,000 to St. Mary’s Hospital for minor capital equipment purchases.
