Gibsons United property back on the market

Real Estate

The Gibsons United Church building at 724 Trueman Rd. is back on the market.

United church officials confirm that a conditional offer to buy the building did not go through.

The potential owner had filed an application with the Town of Gibsons for a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) to allow his family to live in the building, which is on three lots currently zoned for Public Assembly (which does not allow residential use).

Some people in the community opposed the permit, arguing before Gibsons Council July 5 that no matter who owns it, the property should remain zoned Public Assembly.  The Town of Gibsons told Coast Reporter the TUP application was withdrawn shortly after the July 5 council meeting.

The United Church’s B.C. Conference agreed to the sale of the Trueman Road property last November, following a vote by local members.  The church had been investigating the possibility of leasing space in the Gibsons Public Market for worship and other functions.

The property is currently listed with an asking price of $779,000.
