Gibsons’ new dock wins award

Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority

The Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority received the Harbour Authority Achievement award last Thursday, Jan. 22 in recognition of their work constructing a new ramp and dock in Gibsons Landing Harbour.

Presented by Small Craft Harbours (SCH) annually, the award acknowledges exemplary performance made by any of the more than 50 small harbours around B.C.

“It’s recognition of a job well done, and it’s a statement from Small Craft Harbours that they were very pleased with the project team,” said GLHA vice president Joseph Wright. “The proposal process, the installation, and all that kind of stuff is a vote of confidence in the board and the project team. It really recognizes great performance.”

The GLHA had to pull together different sources of funding for the $1.3 million project that would complement the financing provided by SCH.

“Throughout this whole project, the Harbour Authority displayed great expertise in leadership and project planning and management,” said Robin Richardson, regional manager for SCH. “They brought much experience and expertise to the table. [They were] well organized and more than willing to put in whatever time and energy necessary to see the work completed.”

The project is a multi-purpose concrete floating dock with a drive-on ramp at Gibsons Landing Harbour for loading and unloading commercial and private boats. It has increased their ability to accommodate larger fishing vessels. The new dock and ramp were installed in Gibsons Harbour last April.
