Gibsons Lions recycle hearing aids

Lions District Hearing Preservation

As spring cleaning gets under way, the Gibsons Lions are asking people to donate their used hearing aids to the Lions Hearing Aid Recycling Program. Perhaps you, a family member or friend might have one or more hearing aids no longer in use.

During the month of March, the Gibsons Lions Club will be collecting used hearing aids as part of a unique recycling program. The donated aids will be shipped to a regional Lions hearing aid recycling centre, where many will be cleaned and refurbished for a recipient in need. Other aids will be distributed to teams of hearing care professionals and other volunteers for use during health care missions in developing nations.

“Please donate your used hearing aids to the Lions,” said Elizabeth Nordlund, chair of the Lions District Hearing Preservation committee. “Hearing impairment and deafness are serious disabilities that can result in learning difficulties for children and decreased employment opportunities for adults. The poor are especially affected, because they are unable to afford the care necessary to prevent hearing loss and cannot afford to purchase hearing aids.”

To donate used hearing aids, carefully wrap them and place them in the Lions hearing aid/eyeglasses collections box located at Sunnycrest Mall, just inside the entrance.  Hearing aids and eyeglasses are accepted year round.

On March 4, the Gibsons Lions will be at Sunnycrest Mall to provide information on preserving your hearing. Please come and talk to us.

The Gibsons Lions Club has 25 members and meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Lions members are a group of men and women who identify needs within our community and work together to fulfill those needs.  If you would like to be part of this community service club, contact Elizabeth Nordlund at 604-886-1222. Lions are the world’s largest service club, with 1.4 million members in over 202 countries.
