Gibsons council has approved $11,650 in grants-in-aid as part of the first intake of its yearly grant program.

The Town had 13 applications for funding in the first round, and approved nearly all of them at the June 5 council meeting. Only the request for $1,500 from CrimeStoppers was denied outright.

The largest single grants went to Coast Cultural Alliance, which will receive $1,800 to help produce the Arts Calendar and run the annual Art Crawl, and Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG), which is getting $1,500 to repair some of the works in its collection. GPAG will also get $800 under a separate grant to update its web portal.

Deer Crossing the Art Farm was awarded two grants of $1,500 and $1,000 for a pair of projects.

This week’s grant decisions leave $9,930 in the budget for the second round.  Applications close Sept. 15.
