District displays decorative crosswalks

SECHELT

The four pedestrian crosswalks at Cowrie Street and Inlet Avenue now display bright yellow rays of sunshine on blue backgrounds as part of Sechelt’s work to improve the look of the downtown core.

This work caps off the improvements at this location completed earlier this year by the District, including sanitary sewer upgrading, repaving and sidewalk enhancements.

Sechelt’s downtown revitalization advisory committee recommended installing a decorative crosswalk as a 2014 priority project, to help welcome the public to the community’s commercial core. The design was created by District staff and approved by the committee.

The project cost $25,000 to complete. Ennis-Flint, the manufacturer of the Traffic Pattern product that was used, provided Sechelt with a discount of $5,000 on the purchase of the material.

Traffic Pattern is a thermoplastic material that contains carborundum, a material with a hardness rating just two points lower than diamond. The product is slip and skid resistant, designed to last up to 12 years in normal weather and traffic conditions, and increases crosswalk visibility.

Square One Paving of Maple Ridge completed the installation.
