Members of the Gibsons Public Market Society meet to discuss the Oct. 25 gala event.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, the Gibsons Public Market Society (www.gibsons
publicmarket.com) is holding its first gala fundraiser.

More than 250 expected guests will enjoy a cornucopia of local food in an environment of celebration featuring local musicians, magicians and both a silent and live auction.

This is a celebration for everything that has happened to date and also the launch event for what is anticipated for the future.

The success of the Friday Farmers’ Market featuring local produce, artisans, music and a pop-up café has demonstrated just how much the residents of the Sunshine Coast are looking for a community hub where they can spend quality time with friends and neighbours while shopping and relaxing in a welcoming and engaging environment.

Since January, literally hundreds of volunteers have worked tirelessly to create a community supported Public Market serving the residents and tourists all along the Sunshine Coast. Additionally more than 20 businesses have contributed in excess of $200,000 in pro-bono services to the society.

The organization of the gala is no exception, and a great debt is owed to the many enthusiastic community volunteers, sponsors and donors for helping ensure the event will be a great success.

This includes the 17 members of the society’s board of directors, the 10 members of the board of governors and the Market staff, all of whom are contributing ideas, time and money to help make the Gibsons Public Market a reality.

But there is still more work to be done.

The Market building committee has worked tirelessly during these last six months to determine how best to renovate the existing space to accommodate all the features Coastal residents have asked to be included, from fresh local produce, prepared foods, cheese and baked goods, to meats and fish, entertainment, marine education, local art, a café and community meeting space.

The society is now looking to raise more than $2 million during the next year to cover the costs to design, build and commission an 11,000 sq. ft. Market facility that will be open daily throughout the year. The upcoming gala is the launch event for this fundraising program.

Whether you can contribute time, money, ideas or service, now is the time to engage. Please call the Market at 604-886-8814 or email info@gibsonspublicmarket.com.
