Another version of the The Coopers Green Hall Replacement Project has emerged, and with it a climbing budget. The new estimated cost of the project is $1,895,000, up from an estimate of $1,650,000.

Two factors are contributing to the increase, said Don Cunliffe, director-at-large of the Halfmoon Bay Community Association: a larger hall and increasing building costs.

The newest design, by Principle Architecture, addresses feedback provided at an open house in March. An entryway has been added with room for greeting and signups and outerwear storage. That addition, said Cunliffe, has led to an increase in size from 2,800 sq. feet to 3,100. He also said the cost to build has increased over the past seven months since the last design was published.

Other features include maximizing natural light, the inclusion of spaces that could be used to showcase shíshálh art, more details using natural materials to convey a West Coast aesthetic and a rearrangement of spaces to maximize views.

The group is hoping to apply for several grants, in addition to seeking private and business donations to pay for the project. They have raised approximately $212,000 with a goal of reaching $300,000 by the end of 2018. “We’ll keep going if we surpass that amount,” said Cunliffe.

Another design is expected in the fall, with another cost estimate update and the design of new septic system and cost management suggestions for the construction process.
