RCMP

The body of the Garden Bay man who went missing in his kayak on Aug. 16 has been recovered in Garden Bay Lake.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Aug. 29, Sunshine Coast RCMP were advised that a body had been located in the water near a swimming dock in Garden Bay Lake.

The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service attended and recovered the body, which has been confirmed to be the 59 year-old man who was reported missing after going kayaking in the lake on Aug. 16.

“Although this comes as sad news for the man’s family, we hope that this will help them to feel some closure during this difficult time,” said Const. Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP.

A cause of death has not yet been confirmed, although there is no indication of foul play. The BC Coroners Service is continuing to investigate.

The family has requested that the man’s name not be published.
