ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador's transportation minister says a decision to give back a $10 million dollar bond to Humber Valley Paving for unfinished work on the Trans-Labrador Highway is in the best interest of the province.

Nick McGrath is responding to concerns the bond repaid to Humber Valley Paving was done despite the work not being complete.

McGrath says the company did prepare the rest of the road for paving and the project is still on schedule and on budget.

He says the province paid for the completed work and didn't pay for work that wasn't done, so it gave back the bond

McGrath says his department has bundled the remaining 60 kilometres of work with three other projects and issued a tender for 145 kilometres of road.
