After a successful three-day men's bonspiel, the division winners decided to split the prize money and the accolades.

The A final would have been between the Jared Wannamaker foursome of Dwayne Clegg, Keith Clegg and Ken Johnson from Gibsons against the Wright team from the Royal City Curling Club, after both teams won their morning semifinals, but the teams decided it would end in a tie and both would win the A event.

In the B event, the Meat Brothers team one from Royal City beat the Glenn Campbell team from Gibsons in one semifinal, while the Meat Brothers team four won in an extra end over the Dave Gant team in the other semifinal.

Both Royal City teams split the cash prize.

In the C event, the Campbell team from the Hollyburn Country Club defeated the Colin Gatzke team from Gibsons in one semifinal, while the Meat Brothers team two from Royal City defeated the Mike Royal team from the Vancouver Curling Club in the other semifinal. Again, both out-of-town teams split the prize money.

In total, 24 teams took part, with seven from the Sunshine Coast, nine from the Royal City Curling Club and the rest from various clubs in the Lower Mainland. The curlers enjoyed excellent ice from club manger Gord Twanno and his wife Michelle and wonderful food and hospitality from the many club volunteers.

The club itself is enjoying great success this year, with all leagues seeing bigger numbers. There are six teams for Tuesday night ladies (there were no teams last year), and the Thursday night men's league is up to six from four last year.

The Wednesday night mixed league is popular and was capped at nine teams.

The club has also increased membership with its popular Friday night learn and curl, with 17 new members for the first half of the season.

The next bonspiel at the club is the mixed event Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.
