Creative in the Creek presents a hilarious Roberts Creek Christmas themed evening, The Winter of Our Heart's Content, next Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Gumboot Café starting at 6:30 p.m.
Apparently shopping and pouting are the two traditional ways the holidays are celebrated in the Creek. This evening of song and silliness celebrates these Creek Christmas traditions with the original Shopping Song by Laurie and the Shoppettes. You can also learn how men can be trained to shop, and participate in their annual pouting contest. Author Apryl Veld will read and talk about the BC Federation of Writers and Pamela Messner will sing. A truly eclectic Creek evening. Admission is by suggested donation of $10, and all proceeds will go to the food bank.
Mozart by MetThe Met Opera performs Mozart's La Clemenza Di Tito on film, Mozart's last Italian opera, conducted by Baroque specialist Harry Bicket, and featuring Giuseppe Filianoti in the lead as a Roman emperor. The show is on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Raven's Cry Theatre. Tickets are $24 for adults, $20 for seniors available at the theatre.
Sing-along MessiahJoin in a sing-along version of part one of Handel's Messiah, plus the Hallelujah Chorus at St. John's United Church in Davis Bay on Saturday at 3 p.m. Bring your score, borrow one at the event, hum along, sing out loud, or come and tap your toes. Gibsons coffeehouseThe musical coffee house in Gibsons kicks off a new season on Saturday night with singer songwriters Brett Wildeman and Grant Olsen; and Ian McLatchie with Gary McGuire. This evening of guitar (including a steel guitar), with some original songs and some old classics, starts at 7:30 p.m. at The Arts Building (464 South Fletcher, beside the Gibsons Library). Jazz VespersA Celebration of Light, Hope and All that Jazz, a jazz vespers service featuring reflections and music of the season with the Steve Giltrow Quartet, is taking place on Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Gibsons. All are welcome.
Bolshoi at Raven's CryThe Bolshoi Ballet will perform The Pharaoh's Daughter on film this Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Ravens Cry Theatre at 1 p.m. This is a ballet in three acts, and the approximate run time is two hours 55 minutes with one intermission. Please do not bring children under three years old. General admission is $15, children $10.
Fiddlers CeilidhA Christmas Ceilidh with the Coast String Fiddlers takes place at the Roberts Creek Hall on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring the children to meet Santa. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, available at Medi Chair in Sechelt and Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons.
Paris felineThe Sunshine Coast Film Society presents A Cat in Paris on Monday night, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse.
This animated film features blustery gangsters, intrepid detectives, cat burglars (one of them literally feline) and a little girl named Zoe who scamper across the night time roof-tops of Paris, unravelling a pleasantly tangled plot. Onstage live music will be provided by Steve Giltrow on guitar and Karen Graves, saxophone, flute and voice.
Tickets are $8 for film society members and $11 for single event, available at the door.
Boom BoomsThe Boom Booms wrap up their first North American tour with a stop at the Roberts Creek Hall next Friday, Dec. 7, at 9 p.m.
Aaron Ross, Geordie Hart, Sean Ross, Tom Van Deursen, Theo Vincent and Richard Brinkman have played the TD International Jazz Fest in Vancouver, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Fest and Sarah McLachlan's Voices in the Park.

Voices raisedA Capella Strait and Choralations Octet Christmas are performing two shows, the first on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at St Hilda's Anglican Church in Sechelt, the second on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Bart's Church in Gibsons. Tickets are available at Sechelt Visitors Centre and Gaia's Fair Trade, $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Children 12 and under are free.
