With sadness, we announce the passing of Kathleen Muriel Kennedy (nee Sheard), on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in Victoria B.C. Kathie was the daughter of Kay and Stan Sheard of Regina, Saskatchewan, wife of her late husband Grant Kennedy, sister to siblings Jim Sheard, Chris Sheard (Dale) and Barb Goodman (Rick), aunt to many cherished nieces and nephews and stepmother to her beloved stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Kathie was a highly intelligent person, witty and funny, a voracious reader, a skilled gardener, an acclaimed hostess and chef, and a generous friend to many. Gatherings at her house always resulted in good stories, fine food and lasting memories. Kathie loved travel, and enjoyed Elderhostel, Road Scholar and other adventures, such as hiking the Camino de Santiago. Kathie often hosted visiting authors at the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts and was an active member of the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society. She appreciated art and literature, and readily shared her discoveries with others. Kathie was humble and did not seek the limelight, yet she was usually the driving force that made things happen.

Kathie's early years were spent in Regina, where she received her university degree and then worked in radio. Later, she lived in Montreal, where she worked at McGill University; Edmonton, where she worked at Edmonton Transit and helped her husband Grant start the publishing company Lone Pine Publishing; Sechelt B.C., where she and Grant retired to enjoy the ocean; and most recently Victoria B.C., where she found a comfortable life following Grant's passing, despite being plagued by a series of unfortunate medical issues.

In your own personal way, please join Kathie's family and friends in celebrating a life well lived. At her request, no memorial service will be held. If you are able, please make a donation in Kathie's memory to Doctors Without Borders Canada, at medecinssansfrontieres.ca.
