Equipment upgrades in Egmont

TELUS is upgrading its telecommunications equipment serving Egmont overnight between Jan. 17 and 18.

Telecommunications service to the area must be briefly interrupted to allow TELUS crews to replace the existing copper wires with fibre, which will better withstand severe weather and prevent outages during storms.

In an effort to minimize the disruption to customers, TELUS crews will complete the work overnight between 11 p.m. Jan. 17 and 5 a.m. Jan. 18. TELUS anticipates the service disruption will last only 10 minutes at some point during that time period.

During the interruption, all landline and cellular calling to and from Egmont will be temporarily unavailable.

Local emergency operations personnel have been notified and are taking the appropriate measures.
