Youth performance troupe starting

Driftwood Theatre School

Driftwood Theatre School marks its fifth anniversary with the creation of a youth performance troupe.

After two years of learning the fundamentals of acting, and honing their skills through monologues and scene work, the junior advanced drama class students (10 to 16) are eager to tackle a more ambitious project.

“All the students have experienced incredible growth, and the maturity and depth they bring to their performances is really quite extraordinary,” said Instructor and school co-founder Ingrid Bilton.

The play she has selected for the next leg of their journey is called Gossamer by Lois Lowry.

“Between the imaginative characters, the moving storyline, and the profound theme, this piece is a perfect vehicle to take our budding thespians to the next level,” Bilton added.

The junior drama performance troupe is aimed at students and young thespians (10 to 16) with a background in school or community theatre. The School hopes to take the play on tour in Spring 2015.

This fall, the Driftwood Theatre School will also be offering creative drama (an intro to drama for nine to 13) in Roberts Creek, a family drama class, and an eight-week teen/adult class with Sally Williams.

Register this Saturday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Bart’s Church Hall in Gibsons, contact Sandi at 604-886-0143 or registrar.dts@uniserve.com.
