Shari Ulrich returns to the Heritage Playhouse this Saturday, July 12, at 8 p.m. to celebrate the release of her new CD, Everywhere I Go, which was engineered and produced by her daughter Julia Graff, who will be joining her on stage.

Ulrich is shamelessly proud of this album. Recording it was dramatically different than the process of the last solo album. The last was a decidedly solitary project by choice, recorded in her home studio with her customary “I can do it myself!” attitude. This one was very collaborative, with mostly McGill students as the players, some stellar string and French horn arrangements from Bill Runge and, of course, Graff’s steady and sure hand. And the songs were written over a period of a month rather than years.

She has toured in countless ways, from travelling across the U.S. and Canada in a fancy tour bus with Valdy and The Hometown Band to packing a PA, a piano and the dog and driving to Saskatchewan. And she’s loved it all.

She has won two Juno awards and has a B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame star on Granville and Robson streets in Vancouver.

This life in music has lead Ulrich down dozens of tangential paths she never would have pursued otherwise: scoring documentaries; TV hosting (including co-hosting CBC’s Futurescan with David Suzuki and writing and hosting Inside Trax for BCTV); teaching song writing — both in the workshop setting and Humber College, UBC and VSO School of Music); and musical theatre (starring in Carole King’s Tapestry and writing and starring in Baby Boomer Blues. She has also given voice to many causes and crusades over the years.

This is a concert you don’t want to miss. Tickets are $20, at Gaia’s Fair Trade, Laedeli, Sechelt Visitor Centre or at the door.
