Coast Recital Society
CRS

The Doric String Quartet, hailed by critics as one of the finest quartets before the public today, makes its Coast Recital Society debut this Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22.

The concert, at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt, will feature a pre-concert chat at 1:30 p.m. with CRS artistic director Frances Wainwright and cellist John Myerscough before the 2:30 p.m. show.

The other members of the Quartet are Alex Redington and Jonathan Stone, violins, and Hélène Clément, viola. Described by Gramophone magazine as “one of the finest young string quartets,” the Doric String Quartet has emerged as the leading British string quartet amongst the new generation receiving glowing responses from audiences and critics across the globe. Unusually introspective, but always alive, the quartet is known for their subtle lyricism and perfect matching of colour and phrasing.

Formed in 1998 at Pro Corda, the National School for Young Chamber Music Players, the Quartet also studied at the Paris-based ProQuartet Professional Training Program, where they worked with members of the Alban Berg, Artemis, Hagen and LaSalle Quartets, and also with composer, György Kurtag. They furthered their studies at the Music Academy in Basel where they worked extensively with Rainer Schmidt of the Hagen Quartet.

The afternoon program will feature Haydn’s String Quartet, op. 76/6: String Quartet No. 2, Intimate Letters by Leoš Janáček, and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13, opus 130.
