The St. Mary’s Hospital Health/Care Auxiliary Hopkins Branch is planning a very special fundraiser this Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m.

Currently the pianist is a seasonal resident of Gibsons. She has performed extensively as a classical musician, soloing with two symphony orchestras, and has also spent many years as a jazz musician with her quartet, Tammie Lynn and Company.

Tickets are $20, available at The Landing Clothing Co., Gibsons Copy Shop and at the door.

Closing show

Erica Snowlake has had a colourful multi-dimensional show at the Gumboot this past month. This Friday, Aug. 29, she will be holding a closing party from 8 to 11 p.m. Enjoy an art auction, a black light unveiling, music from DJ Nico and blackberry sorbet. Get along to the Gumboot Café in Roberts Creek.

Music ends

Music in the Landing, presented by the Town of Gibsons, winds down its summer series this weekend.

Organizer Linda Williams thanks all the musicians, businesses, community and audiences for making this year another tremendous success.

The 2014 series included 185 talented local musicians — 46 groups in five outdoor venues over eight weekends.

This final weekend features young fiddle player Bridget Graham at the Gibsons Farmers Market from 1 to 3 p.m. On Friday evening in the gazebo over the water, enjoy Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis.

Saturday, it’s the annual Youth Showcase from noon to 2 p.m. at the Sun Dial Stage across from Winegarden Park. Saturday evening bring your lawn chair to Winegarden Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. to watch and dance to The Brothers, formerly Brothers in Farms.

Sunday the Jazz Group of Seven will fill the Sun Dial Stage next to the Gibsons Sunday Market with pure jazz and features John Frederickson, trumpet; Carl Montgomery, alto sax; Ken Grunenberg, tenor sax; Karen Graves, sax/flute; Steve Giltrow, guitar; Sacha Fassaert, bass; and Tim Enns, drums.

Sechelt music

The first season of the Summer Music series in Sechelt is coming to an end this weekend. It’s been a big success, with more than 70 performers in 25 different combos playing the library stage.

The District of Sechelt gets a huge thank you from local musicians and fans. Come on out this Saturday for the last show with The Midds (12:30 p.m. on the library lawn) and an evening show of Skye Wallace and Joe Stanton with bassist Gerry Millar.

Starlight Film Night

Once again the SC Film Society presents Starlight Film Night in Winegarden Waterfront Park in Gibsons, this Sunday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m.

Music in the Landing will open the show with a brand new group on the Coast, Sing You Sinners (Jenny Groves, bass/vocals, Ian McLatchie, slide guitar, Cayce Laviolette, drums, and Simon Hocking, guitar/vocals) playing whiskey folk and swing style music. Then stick around with your blankets and chairs for free movies: Wallace and Gromit and selections from The Beachcombers.
