Pender Blues Fest brings out the best

The iconic Jim Byrnes will lead the Sunday Morning Gospel Show at the Pender Harbour School of Music with the Pender Harbour Choir.

Pender Harbour is the place to be on June 3, 4 and 5 for the 13th Annual Pender Harbour Blues Festival. Featured will be some of the best blues musicians on the West Coast, walking distance to most venues in Madeira Park.

Shows, scheduled nightly at the Royal Canadian Legion, feature multi-award-winner David Gogo, legendary bluesman Jim Byrnes, and master of Cajun, zydeco and New Orleans style music, Gary Comeau and the Voodoo Allstars. The ever-popular All Star Sunday Afternoon Jam, hosted by Tim Hearsey, will include many special guests including Karen Graves.

Friday and Saturday nights at The Painted Boat Restaurant feature singer, songwriter and showman extraordinaire, Brandon Isaak.

Emelle’s Bistro in the Harbour Spirit Centre will host local favourites Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis on Friday afternoon, and Gary Comeau, Simon Paradis and Jerry Cook on Saturday afternoon.

The Upper Deck Café in Secret Cove will host Joe Stanton on Saturday night.

Cousin Harley, featuring Paul Pigat, will be rocking the dance party at the Pender Harbour Community Hall Saturday night, serving up some of the best rockabilly, blues and swing you will ever hear.

The Sunday Morning Gospel Show at the Pender Harbour School of Music will be led by Jim Byrnes and features the Pender Harbour Choir.

Free shows Saturday afternoon at the Blues Stage in Madeira Park will feature Brandon Isaak and Keith Picot, David Gogo, Tim Hearsey and Steve Hinton, along with an artisan and craft fair on site.

Across the Harbour in Garden Bay, John Henry’s Marina will present local favourite Blue Line Trio featuring Dr. Fun.

The SloCat will be offering a shuttle service between Garden Bay and Madeira Park all weekend with the last crossing to Garden Bay at midnight. And on Saturday between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Madeira Park government dock, Sunshine Coast Air will be offering scenic tours.
