Peanut Butter Jam for Food Bank and Red Cross

Art Beat

It’s that time of year for the fundraising Peanut Butter Jam. Musician Roger Camp is looking forward to rocking on the beach again! The event will be Saturday, July 22 from 1 p.m. on Henderson Beach in Roberts Creek until the early evening, with Slightly Twisted and guests performing classic rock with originals. This year they will be asking for donations to the food bank (peanut butter is welcome, too) as well as cash donations to the Red Cross for the victims of the wildfires currently raging. Camp performed a show at the Vogue Theatre in 2003 when fires were burning in Barriere and Kelowna, and they were able to give the Red Cross a $3,000 donation. “It tears my heart out to see all the displaced people, including many friends,” Camp said.

Blues Busters

Recording artist Ron Campbell and the Blues Busters play a dance concert at the Gibsons Legion this Saturday, July 22. Hear live performances of songs from their newest CD, The Main Event, an album that has already charted on blues radio stations. Copies will be available for sale and autographing. Veteran bluesman Ron Campbell is no stranger to local audiences, having performed at venues from Egmont to Gibsons. This is the only time this year, though, that he is bringing his whole band to the Coast. They are: singer/guitarist/songwriter Ron Campbell; singer/bassist/songwriter Dennis Fox; songwriter/drummer Neko; and singer/pianist/saxophonist Ted Durnin. They promise authentic Chicago-style blues that will entice you onto the dance floor. Showtime is 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 at Legion #109, 747 Gibsons Way. Tickets are at the door. For more info, call Ted McNicol at the Legion at 604-886-2411, or check the Blues Busters website at www.ronc.net.

Sechelt Summer

Hear music at noon on Saturday, July 22 from The Locals in the Sechelt Summer Music series on the Sechelt library lawn. NUA – the innovative trad trio of fiddle player James Law, guitarist Graeme McGillivray and bodhrán player Jacob McCauley – will be playing next at 1 p.m. NUA will also be the musical guests at a house concert in Roberts Creek on July 29. Space is limited for the house concert, so give Yolanda a call at 604-885-7775 for details and to reserve.
