Now Generation sings

Nikki Weber presents The Now Generation this Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.

A group of talented youth will perform along with accomplished musicians Miles Black on piano, Boyd Norman on bass and Barry Taylor on drums. The youth performers are Kiah and Faye Duffy, Ashley Hanson, Stephanie Slingerland, Ashaya and Talia Walkey, Shannon Heavens and Robyn Edgar, along with guests Axel Loitz, Conner Lindsey, Alex Toigo, Bryn Davies, Maddy Weber, Mike Weber, Flynn Wilbur and Karen Edgar's vocal ensemble Melodica. Coffeehouse

The monthly Artesia coffeehouse is this Friday night at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.

The evening of live music opens with a group of young, very talented musicians from Elphinstone Secondary: Connor Lindsay, Axel Loitz, Alex Toigo and Bryn Davies, followed by the vocal/guitar duo of Jill Conway and Vicki Beeman.

The second set will see a newcomer to the coffeehouse,David J. Taylor, a well-travelled singer/songwriter with many soloalbums to his name. He is also a record producer, mixer and engineerwith a studio on the Coast.

The Fireside Philosophers with Laurel Lefay and Larry Smith close the evening. Tickets are $10 at the door; they open at 7 p.m., show time is 8. Come early to get a good seat and enjoy treats by Trish. See more details at www.suncoastarts.com.

Library centennial

The Gibsons and District Public Library turns 100 this year. They invite you to come and celebrate this Saturday, March 29, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Visitors can see how it started with a box of books, find out why librarians love peanuts, take a tour, mingle with literary characters and learn about a short story writing contest. There will be activities for adults and children with a puppet show at 2:30 p.m. by Sandy Buck and Mathew Lovegrove, the launch of the library's 100th birthday song with Lowry Olafson, cake and more.

Taylor performs

Move to the groove of Jim Taylor on the largest dance floor on the Coast at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre this Saturday, March 29. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 or $15 for non-members. Finger snacks and glow bracelets are included. It's always a warm environment amongst friends.

Art and yoga

Art and yoga combine in a series of creative workshops with artist Marlene Lowden.

Coole and Genest

Chris Coole returns to the Sunshine Coast with Vancouver Island-based Anne Louise Genest. They are performing together on Monday, March 31, at the Gumboot Café at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door.

GPAG

Artist Marleen Vermeulen shares her impressions through her oil paintings in A Conversation with Nature at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery opening on April 3. Pauline Lawson shows her recent work, When Stones Speak - Acrylic Inks, in the Eve Smart Room of the GPAG. The exhibit launches on Saturday, April 5, with a reception, open to the public, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Empowering kids

Judy Lynne would like to hear from anyone involved in youth empowerment work who would beinterested in participating in afternoon events at an April 19 fundraiser, Empowering Kids and Youth, at Roberts Creek Hall.

She is raising funds to send two deserving youth to life-changing Outward Bound wilderness expeditions in memory of Neil Falkner. See: neilfalknerlegacy.ca.

The afternoon events will be free and include an Easter egg hunt, music, clowns, crafts andactivities relating to the theme of empowering young people, physically, environmentally, holistically and creatively.
