Marlene Lowden and Christy Sverre invite you to their colourful show of artwork, Respond and Reflect, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt, opening next Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m.

Lowden is a long-time resident of the Coast, and Sverre and her husband have recently settled here full time. Their work is truly a response to the current environment and a reflection of past experiences and travels.

"For me, the show feels like coming full circle as I spent so many hours at the Centre while working for Coast TV, interviewing and capturing other artists' work to present to viewers at home on TV.It is a little surreal, as I never at the time dreamed that I'd be showing my own work at the Centre one day," Lowden said.

The show runs until April 20.

Watermark screening

In recognition of UN World Water Day, the Green Film Series brings the award-winning film Watermark to the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons this Monday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Watermark is a feature documentary that brings together diverse stories from around the globe about our relationship with water: how we are drawn to it, what we learn from it, how we use it and the consequences of that use. Voted Best Canadian Film, 2013, by the Toronto Film Critics Association, shot in stunning 5K ultra high-definition video, and full of soaring aerial perspectives, this film shows water as a terraforming element and the scale of its reach, as well as the magnitude of our need and use. For more information or to purchase tickets or reserve seats go to: www.greenfilms.ca.

Rising Tide

Actors and singers from the Rising Tide Theatre Company gave an entertaining and polished performance in their inaugural show last Saturday.

David King, who hopes to start up a summer repertory theatre on the Coast at the Heritage Playhouse, was in fine form, showcasing his own spoken word pieces, along with music from Clay Hepburn and vocals from visiting actor/singer Wanda Nowicki accompanied by musicians Harris Van Berkel, Ken Dalgleish and Boyd Norman. Chad Hershler and Dave Hurtubise were superbly cast in the dryly comical Seniors Day, a one-act play written by King. The audience gave enthusiastic support for the promise of a new company - with hopes that the funding will follow.
