Music Makers celebrate

The Music Makers Fall Celebration takes place this Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s United Church in Davis Bay.

Hear the adult and family choirs, the Tuesday Ladies, the Guitar Gang, Suzuki violins and the Music Makers themselves, Reg and Lynne. Tickets are $15, available at the Sechelt Visitor Centre and Gaia’s Fair Trade in Gibsons. Children go free.

Paint your art out

The Arts Building (464 S. Fletcher, Gibsons) is hosting another open studio this Sunday, Nov. 23, from 3 to 5 p.m. This is a no-stress opportunity to enjoy painting spontaneously with no fear of judgement. Express your thoughts and feelings, have creative fun and exercise your imagination in a spacious, bright, friendly studio space with materials supplied. Fee is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. It’s hosted by Art for the Inner I instructor, Rose Clarke. Gloria

The Sunshine Coast Film Society presents Gloria, a Chilean/Spanish drama with English subtitles, in Sechelt at the Seniors Centre, Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30. It screens again at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons, Monday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $5/members, $9/single-event. 

Pottery sale

Creek Clayworks is having their annual Christmas pottery sale and studio open house this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22 and 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Landing Gallery

Are you an artist on the Sunshine Coast? Do you seek interaction and collaboration with other artists and a venue to sell your work?

The Sunshine Coast Artists Co-operative is seeking new artists to join them for fellowship, mutual support and the collaborative operation of The Landing Gallery. A feature member is highlighted each month, with events throughout the month, a vibrant website and social media presence and an online newsletter sent to more than 300 subscribers.

If you can commit to assisting with the Gallery, drop by during open hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in winter) and pick up a membership application, or contact board member Ruth Rodgers at rodgers.ruth@gmail.com or 778-458-2011.

Music for youth 

Sunshine Coast Com-munity Services Society and Coast Cultural Alliance are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for this year’s Music for Youth Endowment Grant.

Applicants may request funding assistance for opportunities such as music lessons, musical instruments and/or electronic production (studio time or studio mentoring). The $500 grant and is open to youth ages 13 to 19 requiring financial assistance. Those who applied last year may apply again. Deadline is Friday, Dec. 12, at 4 p.m. Applications can be found at www.suncoastarts.com 

House concert

Next Saturday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. Laura Crema (vocals) and Steve Giltrow (guitars) will be performing at a house concert in the Gibsons area. This will be an intimate evening of approachable jazz standards, bossas and originals stripped down to just a voice and a guitar. Tickets are $20 and seating is limited to 30 people. In order to reserve your seat, prepayment is necessary. Contact sgiltrow@gmail.com

Workshop

Suzanne Doyle-Ingram will offer a workshop on self-publishing on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. at a cost of $75. She will teach how the self-publishing industry has changed over the years and how to get your book listed on Amazon. Participants can call to register at 604-886-2050.

Moberg live

The Egmont Community Club is hosting Canada’s West Coast troubadour Alan Moberg at the Egmont Community Hall on Saturday night, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 available at the door or in advance at 604-883-1379.

The Nutcracker

Tickets for the third annual production of Coasting Along Theatre Society’s The Nutcracker go on sale to the general public this Saturday, Nov 22.

Tickets can be purchased in person at Scotiabank, Teredo Square, Sechelt, (Monday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) from Nov. 22 until they are sold out. Or you can call the CATS box office at 604-989-6050 to place your ticket order. Mail your payment to Coasting Along Theatre Society and the box office staff will mail your tickets to you.

The Nutcracker, a lavish production, will once again be presented at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt with six performances: Dec. 27 at 8 p.m., Dec. 28 and 29 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 30, the final show, at 2 p.m.
