In 1973 Minoru, Bodo Sumimoto, came to Canada as a Master of the Shakuatchi bamboo pipe to introduce Canadians to this classical Japanese music.

What makes his playing of this ancient pipe so unique is that as a Master he has been able to successfully marry two different pipe lengths that traditionally would not be played together, offering enchanting and healing melodies that arise from the yet unborn.

In his attempts to put into words the blow technique he uses which is based on emptiness, he shares the following: Placing my lips softly upon the instrument I calmly send very gentle air pressure into the pipe. If I include a more forceful quantity of air then the sounds presented are solid and compressed.

While playing this ancient instrument he describes how his consciousness is filled with misty sounds with occasional penetration of strong sharp like sunbeams.

It is now with much pleasure that Grand Master of the Kinko Style, he announces the release of his first CD As it is.

During his traditional training in Japanese style oriental therapeutics, he awakened to the connection between the Shakuhatchi sounds and their capacity for healing.

The CD, which offers seven tracks, captures the spirit of this ancient bamboo pipe. In silence the instrument exists with the potential of the yet unborn. In the hands of the Master, the flute's pentatonic scale of the five elements, wood, fire, earth, metal and water are awakened

With much excitement Master Bodo shares what he refers to as one's Life's Flow captured within As it is.

Beginning with the first track, which encompasses the traditional approach to playing the Shakuatchi pipe the melodies slowly evolve into his unique interpretation through tracks two to six, returning to the more traditional on the final track.

As it is with its awakened melodies captures his interpretation of an ancient Asian theory of philosophy. When one focuses on his unique sounds the melodies can enhance the listener's meditation, dream state and emotional/physical healing.
