A Tribute to Mandela runs tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse and again on Sunday at 2 p.m. Donations accepted at the door.

The Coast Symphony Orchestra presents their If Music be the Food of Love concerts on Saturday in Gibsons at the Heritage Playhouse at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 at the Sechelt Indian Band Hall.

Singer/ songwriter Kaeli McArter launches her music video and sings a set at the Arts Centre, Sechelt, on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Jewellery fans

Jewellery artisans Kerri Luciani and Darla Van Horne have teamed up to offer a variety of beads, stones and designs, to inspire crafts people. They will be at the Davis Bay Hall (5123 Davis Bay Road) on Saturday, March 1 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Midds rock on

The Midds get set for a rocking dance party at the Gibsons Legion Branch 109 on Saturday, March 1 at 8 p.m. The band is Ray McNally, Grant Olsen, John Geoffrion and Jeff Lucas, and they really know how to make dance music. Admission is $5 for Legion members, $10 for guests.

Jazz with Gillet

Mary Burns writes that she was in New Orleans recently, seeking interesting jazz and Helen Gillet was recommended. "Wow. Interesting was an understatement!" Burns said. She saw her twice during her stay, and when Gillet mentioned that she was going to be on tour, Burns suggested she come to Gibsons. Gillet appears solo with cello and voice on Sunday, March 2, at Boomers, Sunnycrest Mall, Gibsons at 8 p.m.

New film date

The Sunshine Coast Film Society (SCFS) regrets having to cancel the Feb. 24 screening of The Hunt due to weather and road conditions and offers apologies to any patrons who ventured out, only to be disappointed.

The SCFS willhold a special screening of this film on Monday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse. The Hunt is a Danish film about a divorced daycare worker hoping to win custody of his teenage son.

Blue Shoe

Artist Cornelia van Berkel from The Blue Shoe Studio has decided after 34 years of having a successful business in creating hand painted ceramics, to concentrate more on her other artwork. Once her ceramics are gone, that's it! She will be painting on canvas anddriftwood pieces, working on sea star wall-hangings, art magnets and cards. Her artwork is available at the Gallery in Sunnycrest Mall and at Mosaic Market at Davis Bay.

Purple Banner

It's time for artists and artisans to apply for a spot in the 2014/15 Purple Banner Studio and Gallery Guide. This program puts you on the Purple Banner trail of galleries and studios and guides visitors to your door. Deadline for application is March 7. See more at www.suncoastarts.com.

Hammond sings

Coast Recital Society is presenting a special concert in addition to their subscription series on Sunday afternoon, March 9 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Hilda's Church, Sechelt.

A Spring Musicale: Parlour Song and Piano is a concert of music from the Victorian and Edwardian eras, featuring Patricia Hammond, mezzo-soprano, and pianists Robert Silverman and Ellen Silverman. Tickets are $20, students: $10 and are available at the CRS office, e-mail: [email protected], and at the Sechelt Visitor Centre. Coffee/tea and cakes will be served following the concert.
