This month, Jasmyn Evered, who recently turned 11, was chosen as one of only six others around her age to compete against 23 other countries with Team Canada this December in Poland.

Jasmyn has been dancing since the age of three, taking lessons at Coast Academy of Dance (CAD) in Sechelt.

The call came after she took a dance workshop in March with So You Think You Can Dance Canada finalist Danielle Gardener. The professional dancer suggested that Jasmyn audition for a spot on the Canadian team showing her jazz and modern dance abilities. At the audition Jasmyn reported that the other contestants were "really, really good," and she was happy to find that she had been chosen.

"We, of course, are very proud of Jasmyn and are grateful for this experience," said the dancer's mother, Bridget Evered.

Now it's back to classes at the Sechelt dance school as well as her studies at Halfmoon Bay Elementary School until September when she will be going into Vancouver every Sunday for choreography lessons with Gardener and dance professional Josh Beamish. By Dec. 8 she will be one of a handful of dancers representing Canada internationally in hopes of winning titles at the International Dance Organization World Championships.

Team Canada also offers categories for dancers aged 12 to 15 and those 16-plus acclaiming its members as 44 of Canada's most elite dancers and performers. Follow Team Canada's progress at www.teamcanadadance.com.
