The history of the canoe and insights into BC’s thriving “canoe culture” will be among the topics discussed by Sanford Osler at free talks in Sechelt and Gibsons on Sept. 9 and 10.

The North Vancouver author and paddling enthusiast will share stories and photos from his recent book, Canoe Crossings: Understanding the Craft That Helped Shape British Columbia.

The book, which features a foreword by CBC radio host Shelagh Rogers, is getting great reviews from top leaders in B.C.’s paddling community. You can read about them here.

The scheduled talks are at the Sechelt Public Library, Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. and the Gibsons and District Public Library, Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.

The two talks are part of tour the author is making this fall of 25 communities throughout the Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast, Okanagan, and Vancouver Island.

Osler holds an MA from the University of British Columbia and is currently chair of the North Vancouver Museum and Archives Commission and a trustee of the North Vancouver District Public Library.
